TYNE SOUND NEWS
Is a registered charity, established over 35 years ago, it provides an audio recording service for the visually impaired. Recordings are sent to listeners throughout the North East of England and elsewhere. Four regular productions provide local news, entertainment and information.
NEWCASTLE TALKING NEWS
Is a weekly talking newspaper. It contains news items from the Chronicle and Journal newspapers. There is also a "What's On" guide, a look at the letters pages and a sports round up. Available on CD or Tape.
TYNE SOUND
Is a monthly magazine for everyone, with a mixture of local history, travel, famous people, quizzes, nostalgia, stories and cookery. Available on CD or Tape.
NORTHUMBRIAN SOUND
Is a bi-monthly selection of articles taken from the Northumbrian, a magazine specifically designed for people who are interested in the life and times of the county. Available on CD or Tape.
TYNE SOUND INSIGHT
Is an occasional recording with up to date advice and information. Covering issues such as health, technology and benefits. Available on CD or Tape.
WHO CAN RECEIVE THESE?
Anyone who is visually impaired can receive these recordings. We welcome new listeners locally, nationally and worldwide. We send the recordings in plastic wallets by post using the free "Articles for the Blind" Royal Mail service. You return the wallet, including the Tape, by placing it in your nearest post box. No stamp is needed. The CDs are not re-usable and need not be returned.

Log on to www.tynesoundnews.org.uk where you can hear the productions or download them and listen at your convenience. If you have access to the BWFB Sonata radio, you can also listen to them.
OTHER RECORDINGS
TSN also regularly produce recordings for Newcastle City Council (Citylife), Your Homes Newcastle (Homes + People) and local societies such as Newcastle Society For Blind People, Gateshead and South Tyneside Sight Services and the Elders Council. The recordings are totally free of charge. Donations ensure the service continues.

HOW IS IT ALL DONE?
Teams of unpaid volunteers produce the recordings. They meet up about once a month and are made up of editors, presenters and technicians, all of whom are equally important in ensuring that the service runs smoothly. We post about 25,000 recordings each year.
