Palace Green Library
The Library was originally founded by Bishop John Cosin in the 17th Century. Palace Green Library served as the University’s main library for 150 years before focusing on archival and special collections in the 1980s. Today, Palace Green Library is a place for visitors and researchers to explore both the University’s treasures and collections from around the world.

Reception and shop
The Palace Green Library reception desk and shop are open 9am - 5pm daily. Speak to staff on reception for general enquiries. Durham Castle tour bookings can be made through the Palace Green Library reception desk or the World Heritage Site Visitor Centre.
Courtyard Café
The Courtyard Café is open from 09:30 to 16:30 daily.
Please note that the café may close earlier on occasion if in use for a private event, please call 0191 334 2932 in order to avoid any disappointment on your visit.
