Welcome to the online home of Friend's Action North East (FANE)

Welcome to the online home of Friend’s Action North East (FANE).

FANE was established in 2004, is based in Gosforth in Newcastle upon Tyne and the sole purpose of our five-strong team is to help adults in the North East of England with learning disabilities to make and keep friends.

For 5 years the steering group, previous to this, had been working together to set up this project.

Friends Action North East supports adults with learning disabilities in the North East of England to make and keep friends. FANE aims to be a champion for friendship. (Raising expectations, being and doing ordinary things.)

Benefits of the project

The benefits of the FANE project will be that more people with learning disabilities will enjoy friendships and all the positive effects friends have on the quality of life.

There are lots of evidence to show how important friendship is to the healther and well being of us all.

In opposition to this there is evidence to show the detrimental effect isolation has on physical and emotional health and well being.

There will be benifits to the individual who makes and keeps friends.

There will be benefits to the community where friendship initiatives take place because a community is not whole until all it's members are contributing and playing their part.
