The Pool of Sound is a specialist music project which started in Newcastle in 2006. The project provides one to one music sessions for a wide spectrum of people with learning and physical disabilities and also works with groups. The over all aim of the project is to support people with learning disabilities to create, rehearse, perform and record their own music, working with experienced music workers.

Based in Byker Community Centre, The Pool of Sound studios are equipped with a range of equipment such as microphones, percussion, drum kit, keyboards, guitars etc. and for people with more complex needs there issoundbeam, an instrument specially designed to enable individuals to make and control musical sounds and visuals through movement. Soundbeam is used in conjunction with various types of trigger switches/pads and projectors. 

Music genres recorded by clients at the pool of sound include - country, folk, rock, soul, dance, disco, techno, electronic, pop, classics, rock and roll, world music, punk, experimental, heavy metal, soundtrack, spoken word and ambient.

Pool of Sound offers regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly sessions to individuals and groups in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Session costs are £20 per hour or £11 per 1/2 hour for one to one sessions; £30singing/percussion per hour for groups of up to 8 people and £36.50 soundbeam/recording per hour for groups of up to 8 people.
