Eldon Square has received an award from North East Autism Society (NEAS) for its efforts in making the shopping center more autism accepting. Ways they have made shopping here more accessible includes having monthly Quiet Hours taking place on the first Tuesday of the month (10am - 11am) and the following Saturday of the month (9am - 10am), and involves dimming the lights more and using quieter music. Staff are also trained on how to support autistic people and how to approach the sunflower lanyard scheme. Eldon Square has also launched 3 'autism champions' who work with the autistic community to help understand needs and priorities. Due to this, sensory bags have been introduced for autistic children and individuals who may feel like they need it.
