Newcastle, 25th July, 9:30am - 4:00pm

This workshop aims to bring together the ideas, theories and practical skills needed to use Creative Communication when working with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

It is an experiential workshop which will look at:

  • Alternative communication methods. Creative ways in which to stimulate, interact and gain the attention of the person you are working with.
  • How to ‘listen’ to try to understand people who do not use traditional communication methods.
  • The importance of choice, advocacy & communication and the responsibility we have to enable all people with learning disabilities to have these rights.
  • Developing your confidence to use pre-existing skills.

“Creativity is of value in its own right. Creativity becomes communication when it is shared with others. This Creative Communication becomes consultation when it is shared by the individual with people who can make a difference to their lives” Kate Burns.

Having a better understanding of Creative Communication will help you consider how best people with profound and multiple learning disabilities can be more involved in your organisation, self advocacy groups and in their own decision making.
