The Quayside is one of the most lively spots in NewcastleGateshead. Flanking both sides of the River Tyne, it's a fantastic place for scenic strolls, a romantic meal at one of Newcastle and Gateshead's best restaurants or a lively night out in Newcastle.

In the past, the Quayside played a central part of Newcastle's industrial history and heritage, serving as a commercial dockside. Coal was also ferried down to the Quayside via the Victoria Tunnels, which are now a popular tourist attraction, while factories such as the Baltic Flour Mill and Hoults Yard pottery, which have since been transformed, flourished nearby at Gateshead Quays and Ouseburn. After much of the industry moved on, the area underwent a huge regeneration in the early 2000s, and has since become a hub of arts and culture for the North East, as well as a home to many of the region's best bars and pubs.

Today, a walk along the Quayside or the Gateshead Quays will present you with spectacular views of Newcastle and Gateshead's famous bridges, including the iconic Tyne Bridge and ultra-modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge. You can also check out live music and performances at Sage Gateshead or discover the latest exhibitions at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art before stopping off for a bite to eat at any of the exciting Quayside restaurants overlooking the Tyne.

If you're looking to have one of the best nights out in Newcastle and Gateshead, the Quayside certainly does not disappoint. With friendly local pubs and classy cocktail bars, there's a little something for everyone on a night out at the Quayside. If you're more interested in spending time with family, the Quayside market is a great way to spend any Sunday. Bustle by a selection of food trucks, peruse arts and crafts stalls or pick up a gift at any of the stands selling local treasures and trinkets.

If you're in need of a bit of relaxation, you can even unwind at the Quayside Seaside: a small but impressive haven, which will transport you from our quaint Geordie shores, to a sunny beach complete with sand, deck chairs and palm trees. The Quayside Seaside is usually in place from mid-Spring to early-Autumn.

Explore the Quayside and find out what this blossoming area has to offer. You can simply hop on the Quaylink bus which will take you wherever you need to go!
