Newcastle City Library is a six story building housing a 185 seat performance space, a viewing platform, public art, cafe, exhibition area and the Newcastle Collection showcasing the city's unique heritage. A modern building with a staggering book collection, the library is also the home of Newcastle's local studies and family history section.

Alongside the library service, you will also find:

  • Business & IP Centre Newcastle (Level 3) - intellectual property information and expert advice on a wide range of topics for entrepreneurs and inventors.

  • Citizens' Advice Newcastle (Level 4) - providing a free service which is confidential and open to anyone who lives or works in Newcastle.
  • Connexions (Level 2) - careers information, advice and guidance for young people aged 13-19 (and up to age 25 for young people with special needs).
  • Skills Hubs (Level 2) - a one-stop shop for support with training, careers and job advice.
  • Your Homes Newcastle Housing Options Centre (Level 1) - if you are looking for a home you can register and search for properties online with staff on hand to help with any queries.

City Community & Information Hub and Library

Civic Centre Customer Service Centre has moved to the City Library

The Civic Centre Customer Service Centre has now moved to the City Library (Charles Avison Building, 33 New Bridge Street West, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8AX).

This has now become the first Community and Information Hub in the city and provides local people with easy access to the services they need in one convenient location.  It offers easy to use, self-service options, with more support given to customers who need it. This will result in a reduction in waiting times and customers being dealt with more quickly.
