Elmville Short Break Service
Elmville Short Break Service forms part of the Learning Disability Service, within South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust and provides Short break health care provision for adults with learning disabilities whom also have associated health needs. The building has undergone extensive refurbishment to provide an environment that is user friendly and in keeping with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act There are 5 planned beds and 2 available crisis beds. Each bedroom has an en-suite shower and toilet and the facilities have an adapted bathroom should the individual wish to use this. The Unit has a Sensory Room so that people using the service can relax or have sensory stimulation. The Unit has a separate self- contained flat should the user need to have their own space and a quiet environment.
Elmville is situated within the grounds of Monkton Hall along with other learning disability services such as Psychiatry, Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
Elmville is staffed over 24 hours by both specialist qualified nurses and highly skilled Health Care Assistants that have a minimum of NVQ at level 3. In addition all staff attend regular in - service and mandatory training to update and expand their knowledge base.
Elmville Short Break service strives to provide an excellent standard of care and regularly evaluates its service delivery and design to accommodate the ever changing needs of its local population.
Elmville Short Breaks carry out regular service user and carer satisfaction surveys and uses these to further design and shape the service going forward.
