Knowledge Exchange Seminar Series (NU-KESS)
at Great Hall, Discovery Museum, Blandford Square, Newcastle upon Tyne
Presented by Newcastle University’s Professor of Sociology Janice McLaughlin, Professor Environmental Political Theory Derek Bell, Research Associates Mary Hull and Libby Morrison
Poor provision of accessible public toilets is leaving disabled people with nowhere to go and excluding them from society. Research carried out with disabled people and carers has also highlighted that social attitudes are a major problem, particularly the failure to recognise ‘hidden’ disabilities. In this seminar Newcastle University researchers who have been working with the charity Carers Northumberland and those most affected by this issue, will outline key innovations in design and provision of accessible toilets – ideas now being discussed with the region’s local authorities.
