With Christmas only coming once a year it’s important to make the most of it by getting involved in all the festive events your city has to offer. This year in the toon, there is plenty of stuff going on for you to choose from – from Christmas villages, markets, festive food and drink, displays and an array of seasonal events. Here I have handpicked my top 5 and provided helpful links with more information to help picking from it all just that bit easier…

Newcastle Christmas Village, Times Square: November 9 - January 5

‘As you enter the village you will be surrounded by all the wonders you know and love at this time of year. The pretty twinkling lights, the smell of mulled wine and chestnuts roasting on an open fire, the sound of Christmas cheer all around you. Featuring a huge authentic fully dressed Bavarian beer hall supplying a wide variety of drinks including their infamous wheat beers served in steins, courtesy of Erdinger. Music and live entertainment will be provided by German Oompah bands.’


Newcastle Christmas Market, Grey's Monument: November 16 - December 16

The International Christmas Market will take place at Grey’s Monument, Grey Street and Grainger Street. This year - get ready for an even bigger, festive experience as the traditional International and local Newcastle Markets combine forces for a month-long extravaganza in the heart of Newcastle!’


Santa’s Rooftop Cinema Movie Nights, Fenwicks Rooftop: November 3 – December 22

‘For the first time ever, we’ve brought a sprinkling of cinematic magic to our Christmas experience at Fenwick Newcastle with the launch of an exclusive festive cinema, in collaboration with Barbour

Dine With Santa, Fenwicks: November 25 – December 23

‘Start the day right and enjoy a magical morning over Breakfast with Santa. Little ones can tuck into a hot breakfast buffet selection or hot buttered pancakes whilst grown-ups can choose from a traditional English or continental breakfast served with tea or coffee. In the lead up to Christmas, visitors can also sit down to a two-course evening meal as part of its Tea with Santa experience.’

Breakfast with Santa runs weekly from November 25 every Sunday until December 23.

Tea with Santa is available for six days throughout December with three sittings per day, 5.30pm, 6pm and 6.30pm.

Enchanted Parks, Saltwell Park, Gateshead: December 4 – 9.

‘Enchanted Parks is the Newcastle/Gateshead Initiative and Gateshead Council’s popular after-dark arts adventure in the atmospheric setting of Saltwell Park. The annual event, which sees specially commissioned artists transform Gateshead’s Saltwell Park into a magical and mythical wonderland, will run for six nights this winter.’
