80 years ago the Grace Darling Museum opened its doors. Since then, it has been a national tribute to Victorian Britain’s greatest heroine, who risked her life to rescue nine survivors from the wrecked SS Forfarshire on 7 September 1838. A lot has changed in the museum since 1938, but what has remained the same is the interest and admiration there is for Grace. This exhibition will tell the story of how and why the museum came about. It explores the importance of the Darling’s coble, shines a light on the changes the museum has seen and showcases some of the exciting new pieces in its collection.
The museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Free admission.
