Mentoring & Befriending service
Date:
Wednesday, 18 October 2017 to Thursday, 18 October 2018
Venue(s):

At Sunderland Mind, our Mentoring & Befriending service will match volunteers with people who are isolated and need support to go out, access social activities and community services.

The Mentoring & Befriending service is a community based support service for people living in the City of Sunderland who are experiencing mental ill health.

What is Mentoring & Befriending?

  • Individual attention and support
  • Spending time together
  • Helping people to help themselves
  • Encouraging choice
  • Having a good listener
  • Having fun

What Mentoring & Befriending is not:

  • Having someone to solve all your problems
  • Counselling or therapy
  • Having a home help or a driver
  • Home visits - volunteers are unable to enter your home; however, they can meet you outside your home

Who can access the service?

  • People aged 18+ (no upper age limit, as long as you are physically able to access community venues unaided)
  • People who are willing to engage with community activities with the support from a volunteer
  • If you are lonely and isolated and need support to leave the home
  • Willingness to work towards identified goals
