FANE was established in 2004, is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and the sole purpose of our team is to help adults in the North East of England with learning disabilities to make and keep friends. FANE champions friendship, raising expectations and doing ordinary things.
The benefits of the FANE project will be that more people with learning disabilities will enjoy friendships and all the positive effects friends have on their quality of life.
There is lots of evidence to show how important friendship is to the health and well being of us all.
In opposition to this there is evidence to show the detrimental effect isolation has on physical and emotional health and well being.
There will be benifits to the individual who makes and keeps friends.
There will be benefits to the community where friendship initiatives take place because a community is not whole until all it's members are contributing and playing their part.
