FANE welcomes approaches from volunteers at any time

At the beginning of 2007 FANE had twelve volunteers who offer superb support to the core FANE team.

During 2007/8 FANE are looking to recruit a further twelve volunteers.

Volunteers are and can be of any age or gender and volunteering commitment can start from 3 hours per fortnight upwards.

We welcome approaches from would-be volunteers at any time and a good way to start is by completing the online form located here.

Why should I work as a volunteer for Friends Action North East?

Some people work as a volunteer for Friends Action North East for no other reason than they have a strong passion for helping people with learning disabilities to form links and friendships with other people like themselves.

They get a great deal of satisfaction from the role.

Other volunteers work with FANE as a way not only to provide the support which we require but to gain qualifications which could help them to gain more permanent positions within this area of work.

So long as the applicant volunteer’s primary goal and concern is for the people with learning disabilities, we welcome applications from those wanting to gain qualifications in First Aid at Work, Safe Moving and Handling and the Learning Disability Award Framework (LDAF).

We’re happy to help.

What exactly might I be doing as a volunteer for FANE?

Along with a core FANE team member, you might be offering facilitation, support or organisational backup for a pub/friendship meeting in an evening for a group of people with learning disabilities.

If requested, we may support a group of adults with learning difficulties to see gigs at venues such as The Cluny, The Tyne or Mr. Lynch or maybe to the cinema or bingo.

Your contribution as a volunteer is extremely valuable.

You’ll be helping people with learning disabilities to become integrated into the community by making new links and friendships in a fun and enjoyable way.
